Simultaneously draw out vertical & horizontal ruler guides
Hold down (MAC) Command or (PC) Control at the same time as dragging from the zero guides.

Place multiple images in Adobe CS3
Go to File> Place as usual
Select the image /s you want to place
The cursor shows a thumbnail of the first selected image.
Click once on the page to place each image.
